Trump Defends Women’s Sports, Life and Judeo-Christian Values in Speech at CPAC

Former President Donald Trump gave remarks before the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Sunday afternoon from Orlando, Florida for just over 90 minutes. The president touched on a myriad of issues in his speech that are important to the family including protecting women’s sports and defending preborn life.

President Trump spoke just days after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Equality Act (H.R. 5) which, among other things, would enshrine “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” into the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Focus President Jim Daly warned about the dangers of H.R. 5 in a recent article and agreed with Dr. Al Mohler that the bill “would represent the greatest threat to religious liberty in decades. This would be the single greatest threat.”

Due to its inclusion of “gender identity” into federal anti-discrimination law, the bill would mandate that biological males could compete with biological girls in sporting events around the country. Indeed, the Equality Act would make it illegal for any public accommodation to deny biological males access to female sporting events.

In his speech, President Trump spent several minutes on the topic of transgender athletes, and said policies being pushed by the current administration “would destroy women’s sports.”

He went on to joke about the “new records” men were setting by running in the girl’s events.

“[A] lot of new records are being broken in women’s sports, hate to say that ladies, but you gotta lot of new records. They are being shattered…

“Young girls and women are incensed that they are now being forced to compete against those who are biological males. It’s not good for women, it’s not good for women’s sports… the records that stood for years, even decades, are now being smashed with ease… If this does not change, women’s sports as we know it will die,” he said.

“I think it’s crazy, I think it’s just crazy what’s happening. We must protect the integrity of women’s sports,” President Trump added to a standing ovation.

In a current lawsuit against the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) filed by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) on behalf of three female athletes from Hartford, Connecticut, ADF argues that CIAC’s policy permitting biological males to compete in girls sports has taken away numerous awards and opportunities from the girls.

Due to CIAC’s policy, two biological males, Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood took “15 women’s state championship titles and… more than 85 opportunities to participate in higher level competitions from female track athletes” in three years.

As The Daily Citizen reported last week, the U.S. Department of Education, which had originally issued a letter of impending enforcement action against the CIAC under the Trump administration, withdrew its support of the three female athletes following President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Later in his speech, President Trump briefly mentioned the need to protect preborn babies from abortion and to retain Judeo-Christian values in the public square.

“We are committed to defending innocent life and to upholding the Judeo-Christian values of our Founders and of our founding,” he said.

Indeed, the Founding Fathers warned about what would happen to America if we lost our moral center and our religious adherence.

In a letter to the Massachusetts Militia on October 11, 1898, President John Adams wrote:

“Should the People of America [practice] iniquity and extravagance… while it is rioting in rapine and insolence: this Country will be the most miserable Habitation in the World… Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

It would be good for us to reflect on that important statement, and ask ourselves this question:

Are Americans still a moral and religious people?
