Gentle and Tear-Jerker Animated Short Film from Chick-fil-A is a Holiday Pleasure

At first blush, chicken and an animated children’s short film may not seem to go together – but that’s only because you haven’t met Chick-fil-A’s Sam and the characters of Evergreen Hills.

Since 2019, America’s favorite chicken outlet has been releasing a thoughtfully crafted, whimsically woven, and beautifully produced video each year highlighting enduring values – such as the importance of hope, the meaning of time and the significance of caring for and serving our neighbors and loved ones.

The charming and crisp films all have a fantastical feel to them. Evergreen Hills is colorful, bright and inviting. The characters are all likeable. It’s a children’s book come to life – animated style.

At seven minutes in length, this year’s offering is nearly three times as long as previous iterations. Sam, the main character, is growing up. She has a strange sense that she’s lived a scene inside a snow globe. Climbing though an opening of the family’s grandfather clock, ala C.S. Lewis’ Narnia and the wardrobe closet, she finds herself face to face with the familiar craftsman who knows her name – and helps her do what needs to get done.

“Christmas and the holiday season is an incredibly busy time of year, and often the importance of slowing down to notice the needs of others and showing kindness to those around us can get lost,” said Dustin Britt, Senior Director of Entertainment at Chick-fil-A, Inc. “Our hope is that The Stories of Evergreen Hills films will inspire others to spend meaningful time together, reconnecting with loved ones. We want to celebrate the power of the little things that can make a big difference.”

It’s little things like the Evergreen Hills film why so many of us appreciate Chick-fil-A. Drive down any main drag in a typical American town and you’ll have numerous fast-food choices. But many of us specifically seek out a CFA because we want to support a company that closes on Sunday and is open to discussing and acknowledging qualities and characteristics that go well beyond the bottom line.

It would be a good idea to watch this animated short with your children. Use it as an opportunity to discuss how they might help and serve other people, whether at home, school or in the neighborhood. I don’t want to give away the emotional portion of the film, but suffice to say there are other “Mr. Birnbacks” in your sphere of influence. We hear from people like him every day – and from their children eager for healing and aching for a reunion.

Special thanks to Chick-fil-A for leading with their heart – and serving up more than just delicious chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.

Hope you enjoy the film:
