I remember the first time I encountered Dr. R.C. Sproul’s theological teaching. It was transformative, unveiling the profound depth and richness of the historic Christian faith. Doctrines such as the holiness of God, His sovereignty, and the absolute reliability of His promises were brought into sharp focus. Truth is life-changing.
Although these doctrines seemed fresh to me, they were, in fact, age-old. R.C. was guiding me back to the “ancient paths” (Jer. 6:16), the enduring teachings of God’s Word, unchangingly truthful in every age and circumstance.
Sadly, these core truths seem new to many people because they’ve never heard them before—even in the church, whose task is to hold up God’s truth before the world (1 Tim. 3:15). We can’t take for granted today that God’s people—much less the world—know the enduring truths of Scripture. Thus, our mandate is clear: We must present the eternal truths of God’s Word to those who are newly encountering them. In this way, they can experience the fullness of new life in Christ and stand firm at a time when so many are departing from the historic Christian faith.
