Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., said on Wednesday that the will refer Hunter Biden to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for potential criminal prosecution following the release of an 87-page interim report which examined Hunter’s “questionable financial transactions” around the globe.
The report released on Wednesday raises questions about Hunter’s worldwide financial dealings.
Some of the key findings of the report include how Hunter Biden received “$4 million paid by Burisma” Holdings for his membership on its board of directors.
Additionally, in a new revelation, “Hunter Biden received a $3.5 million wire transfer from Elena Baturina, the wife of the former mayor of Moscow.”
Hunter also allegedly “opened a bank account with Gongwen Dong to fund a $100,000 global spending spree with James Biden and Sara Biden.”
And in two other disclosures, Hunter apparently “had business associations… linked to the Communist government… [which] resulted in millions of dollars in cash flow,” and “paid nonresident women who were nationals of Russia or other Eastern European countries and who appear to be linked to an ‘Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.’”
Sen. Paul said in an interview on Fox News that he believed flying on Air Force Two to do business is illegal.
“I think it’s illegal to take money from a Russian politician’s wife, $3.5 million,” he added.
“I think the only way to determine the actual legality of this is to have it referred to the Department of Justice,” Sen. Paul said about the upcoming referral. “I’m gonna send the report over… I don’t know if the whole committee will vote for it but… we are asking for a criminal referral.”
“Here is this evidence, look at it, and then you as the lawyers for the government decide if you have enough to prosecute but I think we should refer this for a criminal investigation,” he noted.
Investigative journalist Peter Schweitzer, in an interview on Fox News on Thursday, said that he also wonders whether Hunter’s transactions were illegal.
“Whether you’re talking about the Chinese, whether your talking about Russian oligarchs or Ukrainians, they are paying Hunter Biden a lot of money, and Hunter Biden has no expertise in any of the areas in which these entities operate. So, the question is why are they paying him money and what for?” Schweitzer said.
“In my mind, it’s no coincidence that Hunter Biden had no activities in any of these areas until his father became Vice President of the United States, and was very involved in policy making involving all of these entities that were paying Hunter Biden money,” he added.
Many mainstream media outlets seem uninterested in covering the story, with the Media Research Center finding that the release of the report was not “covered on the network evening news or morning news shows of ABC, CBS, and NBC.”
