If you’re like most moderates or conservatives, you probably don’t turn to “The View” for your regularly scheduled programming. And for good reason.
So, you may have missed it when one of the co-hosts on the program recently referred to pro-life women who vote for candidates who are pro-life as “roaches.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin made the comments while live on “The View” on Thursday.
“What’s also surprising to me is the abortion issue,” Hostin began. “I read a poll just yesterday that white Republican suburban women are now going to vote Republican. It’s almost like roaches voting for Raid, right?”
Hostin seemed to be referring to a new poll for The Wall Street Journal which found white women living in suburbs favor Republicans in congressional races by 15 percentage points, compared to an August poll which found the subgroup favored Democrats by 12 points.
“They’re voting against their own self-interest. Do they want to live in Gilead?” Hostin added, referencing the dystopian novel and TV series “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Many conservatives, especially conservative women, took issue with Hostin’s analogy.
Conservative podcaster Mary Katherine Ham tweeted sarcastically, “These women are like roaches who are too dumb to know what’s good for them! Why am I not winning them over??”
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley tweeted, “Liberals hate it when conservative women think for themselves.”
After Hostin’s remark, co-host Farah Griffin interjected and took issue with Hostin’s analogy.
“Do we love democracy or not because just saying that, it’s insulting to the voter,” Griffin argued. “People make decisions about what’s right for their families. And the idea that you should have a say for everyone else’s vote…”
It is interesting that pro-choice activists are all ostensibly in favor of a woman making a “choice” when it comes to abortion. But as soon as women make a choice to vote for pro-life candidates – that’s unacceptable. What happened to “choice” in that regard?
And of course, Hostin falsely asserts that it really is in a woman’s “self-interest” to be able to kill her preborn child. But this isn’t true.
Despite the struggles and difficulties that come along with having children, they are always a blessing. Children aren’t an “inconvenience” to be removed at will. They are a gift, and they add value to the lives of their parents.
So no, Ms. Hostin. With all due respect, women who vote for candidates who are pro-life are most certainly not akin to “roaches voting for Raid.”
Women – and men – who vote for pro-life candidates have made a “choice” to protect the most vulnerable and innocent among us: pre-born children.
And shouldn’t Ms. Hostin, as someone who is “pro-choice,” respect their decision?
