A new poll has found that a vast majority of Americans do not want men playing in women’s sports.
The poll, conducted by The New York Times/Ipsos, found that 79% of Americans believe men should be barred from competing in women’s sports including 94% of Republican respondents, 64% of Independent voters and 67% of Democrats.
This is even more striking given that The Times referred to biological men as “transgender female athletes” when polling respondents.
The poll asked, “Thinking about transgender female athletes – meaning athletes who were male at birth but who currently identify as female – do you think they should or should not be allowed to complete in women’s sports?”
Uh, memo to The New York Times, you misspelled men.
The number of Americans objecting to men in women’s sports has grown substantially in just two years. A 2023 The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll found that 67% of American voters were opposed to men in women’s sports.
Furthermore, the new poll examined whether Americans thought that minors should be able to access puberty-blocking drugs and opposite-sex hormones.
“Thinking about medications used for transgender care, do you think doctors should be able to prescribe puberty-blocking drugs or hormone therapy to minors between the ages of 10 to 18?” the pollster asked.
Encouragingly, the poll found that 71% of Americans think that “no one under age 18” should be able to access puberty blocking drugs and hormones, including 90% of Republicans, 61% of Independents and 54% of Democrat voters.
An additional 16% of voters thought that only minors ages 15 to 18 should be able to access these drugs and hormones, meaning 87% of Americans believe minors’ access to transgender medical intervention should be restricted in some way.
Both findings highlighted above should be seen as deeply encouraging news by Christians, conservatives and all people of commonsense.
This large increase – adding up to millions of people – in Americans opposing men in women’s sports and favoring restrictions on transgender medical interventions shows the power of courage. Despite relentless attacks by gender ideologues, who label opponents of gender ideology as “hateful,” “transphobic,” “bigoted,” “closedminded,” and “unloving,” the truth is continuing to break through.
We should all be emboldened to speak the truth about gender ideology, and the damage it causes to women and children. Indeed, it’s one of the most loving things we can do.
