South Dakota: Vote NO on Abortion Amendment G

Next week, South Dakota voters will decide whether to create an unrestricted “right” to abortion in their state constitution.

Focus on the Family urges all our friends in South Dakota to protect life this November and vote “NO” on Amendment G.

Amendment G would amend the South Dakota Constitution to include the following language:

Before the end of the first trimester, the State may not regulate a pregnant woman’s abortion decision and its effectuation, which must be left to the judgment of the pregnant woman.
After the end of the first trimester and until the end of the second trimester, the State may regulate the pregnant woman’s abortion decision and its effectuation only in ways that are reasonably related to the physical health of the pregnant woman.
After the end of the second trimester, the State may regulate or prohibit abortion, except when abortion is necessary, in the medical judgment of the woman’s physician, to preserve the life and health of the pregnant woman.

This language might not seem radical, but it is.

Amendment G is too extreme for South Dakota. It would:

Allow for abortions in the seventh, eighth and ninth months of pregnancy — including abortions after the baby can feel pain and live outside the womb.

Ban parental notice if a minor is getting an abortion.

Endanger women by banning basic safety standards to protect women getting an abortion.

Focus on the Family strongly opposes this dangerous amendment.

Life Defense Fund, leading the effort to oppose Amendment G, created this video to inform voters of this radical initiative.

According to Life Defense Fund,

The proposed South Dakota Abortion Constitutional Amendment would be one of the most extreme abortion laws in the nation. The Abortion Amendment would legalize painful, late-term abortion, all the way to the point of birth.
The Abortion Amendment is so extreme that it would also override our state’s existing common-sense, bi-partisan abortion policies.

Some of the common-sense, bipartisan laws that would be overridden include parental notice if a minor is seeking an abortion, protecting women from forced abortions, and protecting doctors and nurses from forced participation in abortions against their conscience.

All of these laws would be illegal if Amendment G passes.

South Dakota Family Voice, a Focus on the Family-allied state family policy council, says:

It’s all hands-on deck in South Dakota right now, pro-life patriots are rising up across the state to defeat an amendment that would put late-term abortion into our constitution and remove health and safety standards for mothers.

All South Dakotans of goodwill must vote to defeat this deceptive and extreme measure.

Exit polling in the Ohio abortion amendment campaign of 2023, demonstrated, sadly, that 24% of white evangelical or born-again Christians supported the extreme abortion amendment. They were duped by emotive advertising. It is imperative that Bible-believing, pro-life Christians vote to protect preborn babies and mothers from abortion in South Dakota.

In South Dakota absentee voting began on September 20. Election Day is November 5.

Please vote to protect preborn human life by voting “NO” on Amendment G!

And remember: Vote for candidates who support life this fall!
