On Tuesday, one day before his inauguration, President-elect Joe Biden announced that he had chosen Dr. Rachel Levine to serve as Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Dr. Levine is a transgender woman, that is, a man who believes he is a woman. The doctor is under fire for ordering COVID-19 positive patients back into Pennsylvania nursing homes, placing residents at risk.
The ironically named Biden-Harris Transition Team touted Dr. Levine in a press release, saying that he (Dr. Levine is a biological male) would be the “first openly transgender Senate-confirmed federal official.”
“Dr. Rachel Levine will bring the steady leadership and essential expertise we need to get people through this pandemic — no matter their zip code, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability — and meet the public health needs of our country in this critical moment and beyond. She is a historic and deeply qualified choice to help lead our administration’s health efforts,” Biden said in a statement.
According to a biography released by the transition team, Dr. Levine currently serves as the Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the Penn State College of Medicine. Dr. Levine is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine.
Controversy is already swirling about the pick, with Townhall noting that during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Levine and his sister “moved their 95-year-old mother out of a personal care home after a few positive COVID cases had been reported in the facility. The move also came after Levine had ordered COVID patients to be moved into nursing homes.”
After the move, several Pennsylvania lawmakers called for Dr. Levine’s resignation.
“Dr. Levine instituted Department of Health policies which halted routine inspections and issued guidance for nursing facilities to admit and readmit patients who tested positive for COVID-19. For the vulnerable Pennsylvanians residing in those facilities, it’s like they were being forced to live within a ticking time bomb,” said Rep. Russ Diamond, R-Lebanon County.
President-elect Biden’s nominee for the Secretary of HHS is Xavier Becerra, a radical politician who is a “strong advocate for taxpayer-funded abortions, supported sex-selective abortions, and voted in favor of partial-birth abortion and against legislation criminalizing hurting a preborn baby while in the act of committing a crime.”
Should Becerra and Dr. Levine be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Americans can expect HHS to create policies that promote abortion and trample religious freedom in a zealous way.
