The Girl Scouts Deletes Tweet Congratulating Amy Coney Barrett After Backlash

The Girl Scouts, the century old organization dedicated to “preparing girls to meet their world with courage, confidence, and character,” recently deleted a tweet congratulating Justice Amy Coney Barrett for becoming only the fifth female Supreme Court Justice after online backlash from the liberal, progressive crowd.

The inclusion of Justice Barrett on the Supreme Court is historic for women, especially conservative women, and the Girl Scouts took a moment to congratulate the newest member of the bench.

In a tweet, the Girl Scouts of America wrote, “Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the 5th woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789 (‘hands-up’ emoji).”

But the Girl Scouts philosophical drift since the 1990s towards liberal and progressive causes has resulted in a severe backlash.

Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., a member of the infamous squad of four freshman congresswomen, wrote on Twitter, “What kind of patch does one earn for uplifting a woman who is the antithesis of justice?”

Actress Amber Tamblyn tweeted, “(It’s) really disappointing and won’t age well when access to safe abortion and healthcare needs of millions of women and girls is gutted in this country because of Barrett’s addition to the court.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “I already felt uneasy as a trans person in this organization, but now I really understand that with this message that Girl Scouts really does not support me or my trans/LGBTQ siblings.”

In response to the criticism, the Girl Scouts deleted the tweet, stating, “Earlier today, we shared a post highlighting the five women who have been appointed to the Supreme Court. It was quickly viewed as a political and partisan statement which was not our intent and we have removed the post…. Girl Scouts of the USA is a nonpolitical, nonpartisan organization. We are neither red nor blue, but Girl Scout GREEN. We are here to lift up girls and women.”

The problem is that the Girl Scouts has courted the pro-abortion and pro-LGBT lobby for years, though they go through great lengths to hide their association with Planned Parenthood especially, and it shouldn’t be a surprise that those people would quickly turn against the organization for posting a positive tweet of Amy Coney Barrett.

Supporter Kendall Brown, who describes herself as a “healthcare advocate fighting to defeat Republican supermajorities,” tweeted, “Thank you. I know y’all are about to get inundated with a bunch of far-right outrage mongers for this, but you did what was best to protect Girl Scouts of all backgrounds. (Also, a lot of the far-right jackals were never even Girl Scouts, so ignore them).”

No offense to Ms. Brown, but I respectfully disagree.

For a brief period of time, I was a bit of a reluctant Girl Scout. It wasn’t for me, I was not a fan of the various projects, but it was a good organization that now bows to the liberal mob that demands they remove a post about an extremely accomplished woman, just because of her conservativism and faith.

A great alternative to the Girl Scouts is the American Heritage Girls, which was “founded by a group of parents wanting a faith-based, scout-type character development program for their daughters in 1995.”
