Trump Campaign Reveals 2nd Term Agenda: Fully Defund Planned Parenthood, Appoint More Judges

The Trump campaign has released an agenda for President Trump’s potential second term should he win reelection this November. This agenda includes appointing more judges to the nation’s highest courts who will not “legislate an abortion agenda from the bench,” passing legislation that restricts abortion and fully defunding Planned Parenthood.

The agenda was revealed in a letter that the campaign sent to “pro-life leaders and activists” around the country.

The letter states that if he wins reelection, President Trump plans to “fight in the trenches for unborn children and their mothers.”

The president also laid out six steps that he has taken in his first term which he says is evidence that he has “proudly governed as the most pro-life president in our nation’s history.” These six items include “becoming the first president ever to address the March for Life” and “transforming the federal judiciary” among others.

The first action item that the president says he would take in a second term is to “continue our transformation of the federal judiciary.” President Trump would try to fill the “Supreme Court and lower courts with judges who will respect the Constitution and not legislate an abortion agenda from the bench.”

Second, the president would aim to sign into law legislation that would restrict access to abortion. The three pieces of legislation that are named include the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

To pass the bills, the president would try to “overcome Democratic filibusters.” Currently, any piece of legislation proposed in the Senate requires 60 votes. This means that it’s nearly impossible to pass legislation that restricts abortion because Republicans only control 53 seats in the Senate.

It’s unclear if the president’s strategy would include invoking the “nuclear option” which would decrease the number of votes needed to pass legislation from 60 to 51.

The third goal of a second term includes fully defunding Planned Parenthood, which receives around $500 million annually in taxpayer funding.

In 2019, President Trump cut $60 million from Planned Parenthood after his administration changed the Title X rules to forbid “referrals to doctors who can perform abortions.”

Additionally, a separate document that lists the president’s entire agenda for a second term, should he be reelected this November, includes the goal of “protect[ing] unborn life through every means available.”
