Family Policy Councils and Pro-Family Organizations Present ‘Protecting Children in Education Summit’

Pro-family groups, including the Alliance Defending Freedom, the Family Policy Alliance, Family Watch International and the Family Research Council, are hosting an online event, “Protecting Children in Education Summit.”

The educational conference is for parents concerned about school curricula that promotes abortion, includes graphic sexual education materials, and introduces children to sexual orientation and gender identity ideology.

The virtual summit on protecting children from inappropriate sexual materials in schools is Wednesday, August 12, 2020. The online, two-hour event begins at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) and ends at noon.

Several Focus-affiliated state Family Policy Councils are co-sponsoring the event, including California Family Council and Massachusetts Family Institute. Both states have been hit hard with textbooks and resources that expose children to age-inappropriate and medically unsound information, but the push is spreading rapidly to other states.

Andrew Beckwith, President of Massachusetts Family Institute writes, “Our state legislature, the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Planned Parenthood and others are aggressively pushing graphic Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) curricula in our public schools.”

He says that “CSE curricula advocates ‘sexual rights’ for children and makes teens feel like sexual activity is an expectation.”

“Equally concerning,” Beckwith adds, “is that CSE is designed to change the sexual and gender norms of society by promoting diverse sexualities and perpetuating the dangerous transgender trend affecting our youth. The time for us to act to protect our children is now.”

The first panel, at 10:00 a.m. (EDT), will discuss “International, Federal and State Initiatives: Efforts to Sexualize Children Through School Curriculum.”

Beckwith will participate in this panel, along with Sharon Slater, President of Family Watch International and Ryan Anderson, Senior Research Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. The moderator for this portion of the summit is Emilie Kao, Director of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society,

The second panel, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT), will discuss “Exposing Sexual Content in Recommended Curricula and Its Failures to Meet Legal Standards.”

Panelists for this discussion are Irene H. Ericksen, Senior Research Analyst at the Institute for Research & Evaluation; Monica Cline, Former Comprehensive Sex Educator and founder, It Takes a Family; and Mary Hasson, a Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center.

Panelists will discuss how to oppose laws and policies that sexualize children and promote abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism and teen sexual activity.
