Warmest Christmas greetings!
We have almost made it to the end of what will prove to be one of the strangest years in our lifetimes. How reassuring to know that Emmanuel means “God with us.”
The mystery of Christmas stretches our minds. As we ponder this extraordinary story, it’s impossible to miss the fact that it’s flooded with paradox: the One who holds the universe together enters the world as a baby helpless in a manger; the Word of God lay silent as a speechless infant; the heavens cannot contain Him, yet He was carried inside of a woman. In the person of Jesus, we see meekness and majesty, manhood and deity, all in perfect harmony.
Jesus, the creator of time and space, has come into the world to redeem creation gone wrong on account of sin. As a Prophet, He not only speaks God’s Word, but He is God’s Word. As a Priest, He not only offers a sacrifice, but He is the sacrifice. As a King, He not only rescues, but He reigns.
These are immense truths that our minds can’t fully grasp, yet at their core, they are simple enough for a child to understand. Christmas is the giving of God’s gift of eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s not a gift we earn but one we freely accept.
Perhaps you have a friend you’d like to introduce to this gift. Let me suggest that you invite them to join you for an online Christmas concert that I’m excited to be hosting on Friday evening, December 18. I’ll be joined by several good friends who’ll perform a selection of Christmas favorites beginning at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
Thank you always for your faithful partnership in the Gospel.
With my love in the Lord Jesus and prayers for you and your family to have a blessed Christmas,
