This year’s “Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action” is just around the corner, scheduled for February 6-10. School districts across the country are participating in the event, promoted by BLM at School, a national group which provides lesson plans and resources for educators.
Parents will want to check and see if their school is participating in the event, as BLM at School works to indoctrinate students from K-12 into a radical political and sexual ideology.
BLM at School operates under “13 Guiding Principles.” Some of these sound good, such as teaching children about empathy and encouraging loving engagement with others. It’s important for children to know their lives matter and they are made to reflect God’s image. They should learn to love and respect all people.
Christians should be concerned about these issues and engage them, and it’s important for families to have meaningful discussions about our nation’s history of racism and hatred. And it’s vital for the church to bring healing to this brokenness in our world.
But BLM at School has many principles and goals that are deeply troubling.
The goal is to transform children into radical activists who “are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement.” Students are asked to support and affirm various sexual identities, gender identities and gender expressions.
Students and teachers are expected to pursue globalism and diversity and to be committed to “building a Black women affirming space free from sexism, misogyny, and male‐centeredness.”
The principles are heavy on LGBT ideology, teaching children to be “Queer Affirming” and “Trans Affirming”:
Queer Affirming
We are committed to fostering a queer‐affirming network. When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking or, rather, the belief that all in the world are heterosexual unless s/he or they disclose otherwise.
7. Trans Affirming
We are committed to embracing and making space for trans siblings to participate and lead. We are committed to being self-reflexive and doing the work required to dismantle cis-gender privilege and uplift Black trans folk, especially Black trans women who continue to be disproportionately impacted by trans-antagonistic violence.
Children are expected to pledge their support of these principles.
BLM at School has just launched its “Curriculum Resource Guide 2.0,” with many lesson plans, activities, videos, books, and resources to help educators indoctrinate students of all ages. Here’s a page from A Black Lives Matter Principles Coloring Book:
BLM at School partners with other leftist groups such as the Zinn Education Project, based on material from communist sympathizer Howard Zinn and the National Education Association’s division of Education Justice.
“Reproductive Justice” is also a big push for the organization, as it works to promote abortion and “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” (CSE) to school children.
CSE is based on the premise that children have “sexual rights” or “sexual and reproductive health rights,” including the right to “sexual well-being and pleasure.” Resources from groups that promote this, like Planned Parenthood and Sex Positive Families, are available on the BLM at School website.
The Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action will be featured in school districts across the country. For example, in Milwaukee Public Schools, “The Milwaukee community will have opportunities to listen, learn, and add their voices to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) narrative to bring about positive change.” The district has 158 schools with more than 71,000 students.
The Chicago Teachers Union, with more than 25,000 members in every public school in Chicago, is also pushing the event.
In Washington, Shoreline Public Schools promotes the BLM Week of Action on its website, and the Olympia School District also announced its intention to participate in the event.
On the opposite coast, the D.C. Area Educators for Social Justice is promoting the event for its 50,000 students, while the Virginia Education Association promoted the Week of Action with lesson plans for all grade levels.
So is the Week of Action coming to your school? Parents, grandparents and other concerned citizens will want to check out their school and school district websites to see if they’ll be indoctrinating students next week.
Our resource, Back To School For Parents: A busy parent’s guide to what’s happening in your children’s classrooms and practical steps you can take to protect them, offers helpful guidance for responding when you find inappropriate and biased material in the classroom.
