More than Half of All Abortions are Now Done with the Abortion Pill, Study Finds

More than half of all abortions are now done with the abortion pill, a new study has found.

The study comes from the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion organization that serves as the research arm of Planned Parenthood.

“Preliminary data from the Guttmacher Institute’s periodic census of all known abortion providers show that in 2020, medication abortion accounted for 54% of US abortions,” the institute reported.

“That year is the first time medication abortion crossed the threshold to become the majority of all abortions and it is a significant jump from 39% in 2017, when Guttmacher last reported these data.”

In its report, the Guttmacher Institute claimed that the abortion pill is “safe” and “effective.”

While the pill may be effective at killing preborn babies, it certainly is not safe.

Not for the child. And not for the mother.

Common complications from a chemical abortion includes pain, bleeding, nausea, vomiting diarrhea, chills and fever, with severe complications including hemorrhaging, infection/sepsis, incomplete abortion, uterus rupture and death.”

The “abortion pill” involves two drugs taken a few days apart – mifepristone and misoprostol – which cause a pregnant woman to have an early miscarriage.

As The Daily Citizen has previously reported, “The first drug, mifepristone, ‘works to deprive the woman of the essential pregnancy hormone progesterone, which usually results in the death of the preborn baby.’

“Then, 24-48 hours later, the woman takes the second drug, misoprostol, to expel the now-dead preborn baby from the woman’s womb. The second drug ‘causes uterine contractions resulting in an unnatural miscarriage.’”

Over the past several years, the abortion industry has made a concerted effort to make the abortion pill more accessible to pregnant woman.

Part of the effort included a push by pro-abortion groups to allow abortionists to send women the abortion pill through the mail, ostensibly due to the dangers associated with in-person appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Women can schedule an appointment with an abortionist via telemedicine, and then receive the pills in the mail, never having to see anyone in person prior to killing her preborn baby.

In December 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration permanently ended its “in-person dispensing requirement” for the abortion pill, which had previously been in place for 20 years.

That requirement was a part of the pill’s Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) designation from the FDA, put in place because of how dangerous the abortion pill is.

“Of the 20,000 medications approved by the FDA, there are only 57 drugs considered dangerous enough to have a REMS designation,” The Daily Citizen previously noted. Mifepristone is one of those dangerous enough to merit the REMS designation.

Some women, after taking the first abortion pill (mifepristone) come to regret their decision. Thankfully, there is a way to reverse the pill’s effects if prompt action is taken.
