Congressmen File Resolution Condemning Big Tech’s Censorship of ‘The Daily Citizen’

On Tuesday, several congressmen filed a new resolution condemning the “leftwing bias by Big Tech censorship.” The resolution denounced Twitter’s recent censorship of The Daily Citizen, along with other recent examples of Facebook, Google and Amazon silencing conservative voices.

The resolution was filed by three congressmen including Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind. and Rep. Yvette Herrell, R-N.M.

In addition to decrying Twitter’s censorship of The Daily Citizen for correctly identifying Dr. Rachel Levine as a biological male, the resolution highlights Twitter’s censorship of The New York Post, President Trump, the Trump War Room, Catholic World Report, Mike Lindell and General Mike Flynn along with Apple, Amazon and Google’s de-platforming of the social media application Parler.

“Twitter banned conservative group Focus on the Family’s news website, The Daily Citizen, from its platform for stating the biological sex of Rachel Levine,” the resolution notes.

After the resolution cites numerous other examples of censorship by Big Tech companies, it concludes that the House of Representatives:

  1. Unequivocally condemns Twitter’s, Facebook’s, Google’s, Apple’s, and Amazon’s biased and unwarranted ban and censorship of the former president of the United States.
  2. Strongly denounces unwarranted censorship of conservative media accounts.
  3. Demands that Twitter, Facebook, Google, Apple, and Amazon end their discriminatory practices and consistently protect the principles of free speech enumerated in the Constitution for all Americans.

“The United States was founded upon the free exchange of ideas and American’s God-given rights to freedom of speech,” said Congressman Lamborn in a statement on the resolution. “Facebook, Twitter, Google and Amazon have been allowed to suppress First Amendment rights of conservatives with little or no consequences. These big tech companies are setting a dangerous precedent by silencing individuals and organizations simply for holding viewpoints seen as disagreeable.”

“Big Tech companies must end their unwarranted and blatant discrimination practices. I am pleased with the leadership of my colleagues Rep. Banks and Rep. Herrell on this important issue,” Rep. Lamborn added.

This resolution is just the latest salvo in legislators pushing back against Big Tech’s crusade against conservatives.

In early February, The Daily Citizen reported on Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ proposed crackdown on tech companies. Part of his proposal would include a law stipulating that a tech company would be fined $100,000 per day if it de-platforms a candidate for office during an election.

Additionally, The Daily Citizen reported this month that Texas lawmakers are preparing legislation to empower Texans who are silenced by a tech company an avenue to take legal action to restore their account.

Regarding the new resolution, since Democrats control the House of Representatives by a 221-211 margin, giving Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. control of the chamber’s agenda, it’s unlikely it will be formally considered by the House, at least in the short term.
