J.K. Rowling Attacked For Saying Male Rapists Aren’t Women – No Matter How They ‘Identify’

J.K. Rowling, author of the best-selling Harry Potter series, is being castigated and threatened on social media (again, see here, here and here) for saying that males who identify as women aren’t really women.

This time, she posted a tweet about the Scottish police prosecuting male attackers as women, if the male simply identifies as female. The Scottish Sun reported the news on December 11, quoting Detective Superintendent Fil Capaldi, “The gender identification of individuals will be based on how they present or self-declare, which is consistent with the organisation’s values.”

There’s no requirement for a male suspect to have “transitioned” – surgically, hormonally or legally – he can just claim to be a woman.

Rowling quoted oxymoronic slogans from “Newspeak,” the thought control language of Oceania in George Orwell’s 1984, then added one of her own: “The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”

The Scottish Sun article quoted former Holyrood (home of the Scots Parliament) Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill (in the tweet above) who said, “As a lawyer for 20 years and Justice Secretary for almost eight, I’ve seen some legal absurdities. But this tops it all and is dangerous. It’s physically impossible and is about dogma overriding common sense.”

Some applauded Rowling on Twitter, such as radio host Glenn Beck, who tweeted, “This is a woman that is an inspiration. Lots we disagree on I am sure, but I admire her courage. When you know the truth – stand and never sit down.”

Congressman Jim Banks wrote, “Hats off to J.K. Rowling for standing up for women and not bowing to the woke mob!” and journalist Andy Ngo simply said, “Your tweet is brave.”

You know we’ve gone over the edge when it’s “brave” to point out one of the most basic biological realities.

But Rowling received many vituperative, vulgar tweets. Twitterers threatened her, called her names and said they would never read her books again. One woman tweeted, “You are boycotted from this book loving household for… and I can’t stress this enough… forever.”

Rowling has written about the threats she’s received for her beliefs that sex is a biological reality. In November, when activists made her home address available on social media, she wrote, “I’ve now received so many death threats I could paper the house with them, and I haven’t stopped speaking out. Perhaps – and I’m just throwing this out there – the best way to prove your movement isn’t a threat to women, is to stop stalking, harassing and threatening us.”

In June 2020, Rowling explained in an article (caution – language) how she started speaking out against trans activism and gave several reasons for doing so.

She funds research into multiple sclerosis and noted that the disease “behaves very differently in men and women.” Rowling stated, “It’s been clear to me for a while that the new trans activism is having (or is likely to have, if all its demands are met) a significant impact on many of the causes I support, because it’s pushing to erode the legal definition of sex and replace it with gender.”

She’s interested in education and safeguarding children, saying, “Like many others, I have deep concerns about the effect the trans rights movement is having on both.”

Rowling’s concerned about the radical trans movement’s effects on free speech and “about the huge explosion in young women wishing to transition.” Finally, as a victim of domestic violence and sexual assault, she does not believe that women’s private spaces should be open to any man who claims to be a woman.

“Huge numbers of women are justifiably terrified by the trans activists; I know this because so many have got in touch with me to tell their stories. They’re afraid of doxxing, of losing their jobs or their livelihoods, and of violence,” Rowling wrote.

We agree with many of her concerns. The replacement of biological sex, being male or female, with “gender,” erases a key component of our humanity. God created humanity male and female – with individuals male or female – in His image and likeness.

The extreme transgender movement obliterates those distinctions, and is a threat to privacy and safety, free speech and religious freedom. Christian men and women must take a stand on behalf of women and for truth.
