Ignore the Climate Radicals Who are Attempting to Gaslight the Weather

This past Sunday’s New York Times book review took climate fearmongering to a new level.

In reviewing The Weight of Nature, by Clayton Page Aldern, Nathaniel Rich relays an old prediction that between 2010 and 2099, “Climate change will cause an additional 22,000 murders, 2.2 million cases of larceny and 180,000 cases of rape.”

The basis for the curious claim is the contention that warmer weather causes more crime. It seems irritated and agitated people tend to lash out more than those bundled up or holed up inside on cold days.

What’s especially curious and irresponsible about the shocking claim, though, is that those numbers, awful though they may be, represent just a 2.2% increase in murder and a 3.1% increase in rape.

Any increase is terrible and unacceptable, of course, but it never seems to occur to radicals that it’s family and social breakdown, not weather, that’s exacerbating the crime.

Yet another shock claim involves “Naegleria fowleri,” an amoeba that lives in soil and fresh warm water, like lakes and rivers. It’s known as a “brain-eating” single-celled living organism.

In the Times’ review, Rich writes, “the brain-eating amoeba has begun infecting swimmers in lakes as far north as Iowa and Minnesota and may already be present in all fresh water.”

Such an alarming statement might empty recreational bodies of fresh water everywhere, but data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would seem to suggest that isn’t quite necessary.

That’s because between 1962 and 2022 – 60 years (!) – there’s been one case of the amoeba in Iowa and two in Minnesota.

Or, as climate radicals might be inclined to claim, “There’s been twice as many cases in the North Star State than in the Hawkeye State.”

Whether claiming warmer lake water will eat our brains or hotter temperatures caused by cars will lead to a spike in rapes and murders, radical environmentalism is a dangerous “religion” for those who are determined to evangelize and convince us of our part in the ever-changing nature of weather.

Both Rich and Aldern write with an urgency, referring to climate fluctuations as “unobservably slow and teeth-chatteringly rapid.” They believe it’s leading “to the unthinking and indiscriminate slaughter of billions of creatures” and, ultimately, to the “willful destruction of civilization.”

Imagine if this same type of energy was applied to the actual slaughter of innocent babies in the womb. Or to the escalating population bust caused by the failure of families to form.

Writes John L. Casey, a former White House national space policy advisor, NASA headquarters consultant, and space shuttle engineer:

“The theory of man-made global warming & climate change based on human greenhouse gas emissions is the GREATEST scientific FRAUD ever perpetuated on the world’s citizens.”

As decades of climate propaganda pile up and countless predictions continue to not pan out, look for radicals to become even more radicalized in the coming days to both garner headlines and recruit more followers.

As Christians, we must resist the fearmongers in our midst, but instead embrace the words that the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy:

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7).
