Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh led the Wolverines to a blowout 34-13 victory over the Washington Huskies on Monday, earning the team its 12th claimed national title – its first since 1997. The team went undefeated all year with a perfect 15-0 record.
But coach Harbaugh isn’t just winning football games – he’s also been winning for life.
Harbaugh is outspoken about his pro-life views. He spoke at the Plymouth Right to Life Dinner in Plymouth, Michigan, telling the audience he believes “in having the courage to let the unborn be born.”
“I love life,” the coach shared. “I believe in having a loving care and response for life and death,” adding,
My faith and my science are what drive these beliefs in me. Quoting from Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
The coach has also told his family, and members of the Wolverines, he would be willing to adopt any “unplanned” children.
“Let’s discuss it,” Harbaugh said. “I’ve told [them] the same thing I tell my kids, boys, the girls, same thing I tell our players, our staff members,” adding,
I encourage them if they have a pregnancy that wasn’t planned, to go through with it, go through with it. Let that unborn child be born, and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby.
Harbaugh is an alum of the University of Michigan, and a former NFL quarterback for the Chicago Bears. He served as head coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014, leading the team to Super Bowl XVLII in 2013. He’s served as head coach for the Wolverines since 2015.
Congratulations to coach Harbaugh and the Wolverines on the national championship. And thank you, coach, for continuing to stand for life.
