The mission of The Walt Disney Company is to “entertain, inform and inspire people around the globe through the power of unparalleled storytelling.”
But the decline of Disney’s once-iconic brand is becoming one of the saddest stories ever told.
In just a few short weeks, Walt Disney’s dream has gone up in smoke, from wonderful to “woke.”
The company has drifted from its mission of bringing families a magical, memorable experience through spectacular storytelling. Instead, Disney has ventured into politics, campaigning for whatever cause the Left has most recently started to champion.
In March 2022, the Florida legislature passed a newly-enacted Parental Rights in Education bill which “reinforces the fundamental right of parents to direct the care, education and upbringing of their children.”
But Disney came out against the bill after facing pressure to do so from LGBT-activist groups, and pledged $5 million to LGBT causes.
Yet, the company’s push against parental rights apparently didn’t come soon enough for some the company’s employees, who then staged a walk-out.
To appease their employees, Disney held a company-wide Zoom call in which Karey Burke, president of Disney’s General Entertainment Content, told the Disney staff that she’s “a mother of two queer children, actually. One transgender child and one pansexual child.”
Burke went on to say that Disney has “many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories, and yet we don’t have enough leads, and narratives in which gay characters just get to be characters.”
Also, during the call, Disney’s “diversity and inclusion” manager, Vivian Ware, excitedly announced that the company is replacing their cast member’s use of “ladies and gentlemen” and “boys and girls” in show announcements.
Instead, their cast members will use the apparently more inclusive phrase, “dreamers of all ages.”
But Disney’s actions may come with consequences.
Florida legislators have recently broached the idea of repealing a 1967 law, the Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which “gives Disney the autonomy to effectively run its own government in the area around Disney World.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently expressed support for removing this “special privilege” that the company enjoys.
“As a matter of first principle, I don’t support special privileges in law just because a company is powerful,” the governor said. “Some of these executives and what they’re saying, and you’re just like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I mean this is really, really crazy.”
“The state should be governed by the best interests of the people … Any special privileges in law, I would like to get rid of,” he added.
Governor DeSantis also addressed criticism of the state’s new parental rights bill.
“There’s a movement that somehow parents should just butt out of the schools. I think that that’s wrong,” Gov. DeSantis said. “I think that is important that they know what’s being taught in schools.”
“Us parents, we’re united on issues like that. We have a role. We’re the primary role to play in the upbringing of these kids,” the governor added.
According to the Citizens for Renewing America (CRA), The Walt Disney Company will receive $578 million in tax credits from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
“Given Disney’s penchant for sexually grooming children, the Florida legislature should reconsider,” CRA suggested.
As a corporation, Disney has the right to promote and advance whatever political cause it likes.
But Florida legislators also have the right to push back and remove Disney’ “special privileges” under the state’s laws.
The decline of Disney truly is a sad story.
For Christian parents hoping that Disney will provide their children with family-friendly entertainment like they had growing up, those dreams have been dashed, cast into the twilight zone.
