And CBS news’ lead national correspondent called Biden’s announcement “an ambitious goal” compared to Trump having “no national strategy.”
But guess what?
President Biden’s newly announced plan is actually less than what the Trump Administration had been delivering when he left office this week. After Operation Warp Speed delivered COVID vaccines in “miraculous” time, the Trump Administration was already delivering the number of vaccines to Americans that the Biden Administration is promising. In fact, the Washington Examiner reported this morning, “On Trump’s last day, 1.6 million vaccines were administered. Compared to that, Biden’s talking about slowing down vaccinations by 35%.”
Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.), who serves as the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis’ Ranking Member, explained the Biden Administration’s miscalculation and resultant hyperbole, “By doing simple math, we are on track to deliver 100 million doses in 100 days, showing that President Biden’s plan is not a new plan at all and leans on the Trump Administration’s success.”
Scalise added that he and his colleagues stand ready to assist the new President if he truly wants to improve upon President Trump’s successes,
“If President Biden wants to develop a new plan to administer 200 million vaccines in 100 days, Congressional Republicans stand ready to work with President Biden to help further speed vaccine distribution.”
Timothy P. Carney, senior columnist at the Washington Times, explained that clearly President Biden’s new plan “is to mostly continue the coronavirus plan of the Trump administration” but he is simply employing “credulous reporters who can’t do division to convince the world that he has hatched a brilliant new coronavirus plan.”
Carney adds, “And up until [last night], it worked flawlessly.” But, “now that some reporters have put some denominators into some numerators, though, Biden’s on the defensive.”
