Corporate behemoth Amazon wrote a letter to President Biden yesterday offering up its “operations, information technology, and communications capabilities and expertise” to help the Biden administration distribute COVID-19 vaccines.
The letter raises this immediate question: Why didn’t it offer the same help to former President Donald Trump?
“Dear President Biden, congratulations to you and Vice President Harris on your inauguration. As you begin your work leading the country out of the COVID-19 crisis, Amazon stands ready to assist you in reaching your goal of vaccinating 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of your administration,” the letter began.
“We are prepared to leverage our operations, information technology, and communications capabilities and expertise to assist your administration’s vaccination efforts. Our scale allows us to make a meaningful impact immediately in the fight against COVID-19, and we stand ready to assist you in this effort.
“Since the beginning of this crisis, we have worked hard to keep our workers safe. We are committed to assisting your administration’s vaccination efforts as we work together to protect our employees and continue to provide essential services during the pandemic.”
The letter was written by Dave Clark, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer.
One of the key sentences in the letter is when Amazon offers to “assist your administration’s vaccination efforts.”
Why was a similar offer never made to assist the Trump administration’s vaccination efforts?
According to Fox Business, “Two senior Trump administration officials told Fox News that Amazon never offered assistance to the Trump administration with vaccine distribution.”
The Daily Citizen reached out to Amazon for a comment as to whether an offer was made to the Trump administration but did not receive a response.
As of January 20, with no help from Amazon, the Trump administration had distributed 35,990,150 doses of the two COVID-19 vaccines with 16,525,281 doses already administered, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This isn’t the first time Amazon has been blatant about its left-wing political leanings.
In June, after the death of George Floyd, Amazon donated $10 million to “organizations supporting justice and equity” including the ACLU, Black Lives Matter, and the NAACP. Following a corporate match campaign, Amazon donated an additional $17 million to these organizations, bringing its total contribution to $27 million.
Additionally, earlier this month Amazon Web Services kicked the free speech social media platform Parler off of its web hosting service, effectively removing Parler from the internet.
Nearly 2/3rds of Americans have purchased a product on Amazon. Undoubtedly, this includes both Republicans and Democrats.
If Amazon is only willing to help presidents that align with its political leanings, maybe conservative Americans will start looking for an alternative for their online shopping habits.
