Will the Biden Administration be the Most Pro-Abortion Administration in History?

With Joe Biden as the likely future President of the United States, what does that mean for abortion? During Donald Trump’s presidency, preborn life was often the focus with the administration renewing the Mexico City policy, which prevents taxpayer funds from being used to support abortion abroad, eliminating Title X funding from Planned Parenthood and conscience protections. These policies are all in jeopardy as the Biden administration takes over.

When it comes to abortion, Joe Biden was previously a “staunch supporter” of the Hyde Amendment, which is a rule added into every Congressional spending bill that prevents taxpayer funds from being used for abortions, with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother. That is, until last year.

Biden has now switched sides and is looking to include abortion coverage in the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. The change would also cover contraception.

“If I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone’s ZIP code,” Biden said on the campaign trail. He’s also said he will not apologize for his previous position on the Hyde Amendment.

According to his campaign website, Biden will also attempt to eliminate much of the nation’s pro-life laws that help protect women and preborn babies. The website states that his administration will “reverse the Trump Administration and states’ all-out assault on women’s right to choose. As president, Biden will work to codify Roe v. Wade, and his Justice Department will do everything in its power to stop the rash of state laws that so blatantly violate the constitutional right to an abortion, such as so-called TRAP laws, parental notification requirements, mandatory waiting periods, and ultrasound requirements.”

To “codify abortion” would mean to include it in the U.S. Constitution as a statutory right, which is by no means the original intent of the Founding Fathers, or pass a federal law.

He would also reverse and remove the Mexico City policy and return Title X funding to Planned Parenthood.

The abortion business supported Biden in the election, with Planned Parenthood president Alexis McGill Johnson releasing a statement, which read, “Joe Biden is the only candidate in this race who will stand up for our health and our rights.

“He was instrumental in the creation of the Affordable Care Act, which expanded birth control with no co-pay to 63 million women, and in helping to ensure that sexual and reproductive health care was accessible across the country. He has spoken out for LGBTQ+ rights, and against the systemic racism in this country that is costing Black people their lives. Biden has committed to champion access to sexual and reproductive health care — including access to abortion — and to fight for our communities. When he left the Senate, Vice President Joe Biden had a 100% voting record from Planned Parenthood Action Fund and has been clear he is ‘100% for sexual and reproductive health.’ And we are going to hold him to that,” McGill Johnson said.

Though some of the Biden wish list on abortion looks somewhat unlikely, as Republicans are poised to maintain control over the Senate, Planned Parenthood does have a Plan B.

“We think many of these issues actually could be addressed day one, in an executive order that explicitly talks about the new administration’s commitment to sexual reproductive health care,” Jacqueline Ayers, vice president of government relations and public policy for Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said.

“I think that this is a great victory, but we know that we are going to have a lot of work to do because it’s not just about undoing the harm of the last four years, but really making sure that we’re moving the ball forward and advancing health care through really bold changes.”

This eliminates a Constitutional amendment, but the executive orders could have far reaching effects.

There’s also Biden’s Vice President, Kamala Harris. A well-known supporter of abortion, she initially led California’s attacks against David Daleiden, who filmed the undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s alleged profiting off preborn remains. Though it is legal to recoup the cost of transportation and other incidentals in donating preborn tissue, it is illegal to make a profit.

For supporters of life, the next four years will not be smooth sailing. But history has shown that during such times, Republican-led states often take initiative and create pro-life legislation meant to thwart the pro-abortion agenda wherever possible.
