John Stonestreet Guides Christians in ‘Civilizational Moment’

John Stonestreet, president of the Colson Center for Chrisitan Worldview and regular contributor to Daily Citizen, gave the Lighthouse Voices talk this week at Focus on the Family.

He addressed the deeply important topic of Christians faithfully engaging our current civilizational moment with the clarity of a full Christian worldview. Stonestreet asked, as we face this crucial moment in the world, “Are we going to renew and revive our civilization, or are we facing decline?”

The answer to that question is really up to our adherence to and participation in God’s redemptive work of not just saving individual souls, but in redeeming all of creation, including culture. This comes down to an important question that Stonestreet posed, “How should a Christian think, how should a Christian live in a civilizational moment like this one?”

Early in his talk, Stonestreet referenced the great Chuck Colson who he explained “was adamant that Christianity is personal, but it is not private.” He explained Colson was famous for proclaiming, “Christianity is a way of comprehending and understanding all of reality and in that sense, it is a worldview.”

This means that Christian truth applies to all of human life and culture, not just personal salvation or narrow “religious” or spiritual life. After all, Revelation tells us that God’s historic narrative is moving toward the redemption and the renewal of all things.

Stonestreet’s talk is well worth watching as a family for he offers a very full view of the truth and practical relevance of Christianity.

Here is one of the most important things he shared with the group at Focus on the Family that evening regarding two ghastly bills working their way through the Colorado legislature that would take children away from a parent who refuses to affirm the lie that anyone can change their sex.

Stonestreet is correct. He soberly explained our fidelity to Christ’s call demands “we have to do the good that we can do, we have to fight the evil that we can fight. We have to resist what we can resist and restore what we can restore.”

That is redemption. That is Christ’s work in the world. Therefore, it must be our work in the world. That is mere Christianity.
