Trump Ends ‘Transgenderism’ and DEI in the Military, Reinstates Wrongly Discharged Troops

President Donald J. Trump signed four executive orders on Monday: a ban on “transgender” troops and an end to “pronoun” usage in the armed forces; a prohibition on DEI and CRT in the military; an order reinstating up to 8,000 service members wrongly discharged for refusing to take experimental COVID-19 vaccines; and a directive to create an Iron Dome – a missile defense shield – to protect America.

In a speech before the House Republican Conference on Monday, President Trump promised a quick end to the military’s social engineering agenda.

“To ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world, we will get transgender ideology … out of our military. It’s gonna be gone,” Trump said Monday.

“In addition, we will stop our service members from being indoctrinated with radical left ideologies such as critical race theories.”

“Finally, we will offer full reinstatement to any servicemember who was expelled from the armed forces due to the COVID vaccine mandate, and we will restore them to their former rank with full pay.”

President Trump signed the four executive orders later in the day on Monday.

Transgenderism and Pronouns in the Military

The president’s executive order Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness reaffirms the agenda of the United States military “to protect the American people and our homeland as the world’s most lethal and effective fighting force.”

The order states that military excellence must not be hindered by political and ideological agendas. It points out that many conditions – bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidality – are incompatible with active duty. For decades, this included individuals with gender dysphoria.

Gender dysphoria is a term invented by psychiatrists that encompasses those who truly hate and reject their sex, young teens – mostly female – swept up in a social contagion, and adult males who are sexually aroused by the thought of themselves as a woman.

The order states, “Consistent with the military mission and longstanding DoD policy, expressing a false ‘gender identity’ divergent from an individual’s sex cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service.”

“Beyond the hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved, adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life.”

“A man’s assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.”

The order then states:

It is the policy of the United States Government to establish high standards for troop readiness, lethality, cohesion, honesty, humility, uniformity, and integrity. This policy is inconsistent with the medical, surgical, and mental health constraints on individuals with gender dysphoria. This policy is also inconsistent with shifting pronoun usage or use of pronouns that inaccurately reflect an individual’s sex.

The executive order requires the secretary of defense to:

Issue directives for DoD to end invented and identification-based pronoun usage;

Refuse to allow males to use or share sleeping, changing, or bathing facilities designated for females, nor allow females to use or share sleeping, changing, or bathing facilities designated for males, absent extraordinary operational necessity;

Issue guidance within 30 days to implement the executive order.

Former President Barack Hussein Obama II initially opened the military to transgender-identifying troops in 2016. But President Trump reinstated the military’s longstanding prohibition in his first term.

Former President Joe Biden then issued Executive Order 14004 – Enabling All Qualified Americans to Serve Their Country in Uniform – on January 25, 2021, which permitted individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria to serve in the military.

President Trump’s new executive order revokes Executive Order 14004.

According to the Congressional Research Service, “Between Jan. 1, 2016, and May 14, 2021, the DOD reportedly spent approximately $15 million on providing gender-affirming care (surgical and nonsurgical care) to 1,892 active-duty service members.”

While we must have compassion for transgender-identified service members, permitting individuals struggling with gender dysphoria to serve in the military harms our nation’s lethality, integrity and readiness.

Additionally, it’s not compassionate to permit those already struggling with a mental disorder like gender dysphoria to serve in the military, which often causes and exacerbates mental health issues and suicidality.

Ending DEI and CRT

The president signed another executive order, Restoring America’s Fighting Force, which restores merit to the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Coast Guard, rather than policies that favor individuals or groups based on social constructs.

“No individual or group within our Armed Forces should be preferred or disadvantaged on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, color, or creed,” the order states.

It notes that military leadership has implemented DEI and race- and sex-based preferences within the armed forces which “undermine leadership, merit, and unit cohesion, thereby eroding lethality and force readiness.”

The order states:

It is the policy of my Administration that the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security with regard to the United States Coast Guard (USCG), and every element of the Armed Forces should operate free from any preference based on race or sex.

The order directs Secretary of Defense Hegseth and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to:

abolish every DEI office within the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security with regard to the USCG, respectively, including any vestiges of DEI offices, such as sub-offices, programs, elements, or initiatives established to promote a race-based preferences system that subverts meritocracy, perpetuates unconstitutional discrimination, and promotes divisive concepts or gender ideology.

Furthermore, the order prohibits military academies “from promoting, advancing, or otherwise inculcating the following un-American, divisive, discriminatory, radical, extremist, and irrational theories,” including:

“Divisive concepts,” “race or sex stereotyping,” or “race or sex scapegoating”;

That America’s founding documents are racist or sexist; and

“Gender ideology.”

“In addition, these institutions shall be required to teach that America and its founding documents remain the most powerful force for good in human history,” the order pronounces.

Reinstating the Troops

President Trump signed an executive order Reinstating Service Members Discharged Under the Military’s COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate.

The order criticized the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate as “an unfair, overbroad, and completely unnecessary burden on our service members.”

“Further,” the mandate adds, “the military unjustly discharged those who refused the vaccine, regardless of the years of service given to our Nation, after failing to grant many of them an exemption that they should have received.”

“Federal Government redress of any wrongful dismissals is overdue,” the order proclaims.

Therefore, the order directs the secretary of defense or the secretary of homeland security to:

Make reinstatement available to all members of the military (active and reserve) who were discharged solely for refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and who request to be reinstated;

Enable those service members reinstated under this section to revert to their former rank and receive full back pay, benefits, bonus payments, or compensation; and

Allow any service members who provide a written and sworn attestation that they voluntarily left the service or allowed their service to lapse according to appropriate procedures, rather than be vaccinated under the vaccine mandate, to return to service with no impact on their service status, rank, or pay.

The Iron Dome for America

The president’s fourth executive order on Monday directed the military to create a next-generation missile-defense shield to protect the American homeland from ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other next-generation aerial attacks.

In recent years, we’ve seen the military be used for social experimentation to promote gender ideology and racial indoctrination. And service members who refused to take an experimental vaccine – for medical or religious reasons – were promptly terminated from service.

We thank the president for taking these important steps to restore common sense, trust, integrity and readiness in our nation’s armed forces.
