Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States from inside the Capitol Rotunda today, laying out his vision for the future. Trump is the first president in 128 years to serve two nonconsecutive terms.
J.D. Vance was inaugurated as the 50th vice president of the United States, at age 40 becoming one of the youngest persons ever to hold the office.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan and evangelist Franklin Graham gave invocations during the ceremony.
“We pray for President Trump, that you’ll watch over, protect, guide and direct him,” Graham prayed. “Give him your wisdom from your throne on high. We ask that you would bless him and that our nation would be blessed through him.”
“We know that America can never be great again if we turn our backs on you,” Graham prayed. “We ask for your help.”
Per tradition, Trump took the oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts. You can watch the clip of the president taking the oath below:
In his inaugural speech, Trump emphasized three themes: unity, strength and fairness.
“The Golden Age of America begins right now,” the president began.
Near the beginning of his speech, the president pledged to restore the impartial rule of law.
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed, our safety will be restored, the scales of justices will be rebalanced,” the president stated. “The vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end. Our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free.”
President Trump also spoke about his belief that God spared his life for this moment, saying,
The president laid out numerous policy actions he will take today, and in the coming weeks.
“After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional efforts to restrict free expression, I will sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America,” President Trump stated. “Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponized to persecute political opponents.”
President Trump also pledged to end the federal government’s DEI and transgender policies.
“This week, I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life,” President Trump stated. “We will forge a society that is color blind and merit based.”
Additionally, President Trump spoke about restoring biological reality to the federal government’s bureaucracies and policies:
Furthermore, the president added that he will reinstate members of the military expelled for refusing to take COVID-19 vaccines.
After President Trump was sworn in, Carrie Understood performed a beautiful a cappella rendition of “America the Beautiful.”
This afternoon, President Trump will begin fulfilling his campaign promises by signing an expected 200 executive orders. He is signing them at various locations, including on Capitol Hill, at the Capitol One arena, and more later at the White House.
Scripture exhorts us to pray for all leaders in authority. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 2:1-3,
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior” (ESV).
Will you please join us in praying for President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance? Pray God may grant them wisdom, peace and courage to do what is right over the next four years.
