A police investigation is underway after pro-life activists painted a “Baby Lives Matter” mural outside a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to KKTV, WBTV’s Sky 3 helicopter saw the blue and purple painted mural from above, and then contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to inquire about it.
For their part, the Charlotte Police Department said it received a call on Wednesday about “vandalism to the road on South Torrence Street,” where the Planned Parenthood is located. The police department also said the incident is being investigated and the “Charlotte Department of Transportation has been notified.”
Though every crime should be investigated and prosecuted as local law enforcement see fit, including this one, this incident leaves a perplexing question.
Why would it be a potential crime to paint a “Baby Lives Matter” mural on a public road, but not a “Black Lives Matter” one?
Following the death of George Floyd in June, “Black Lives Matter” murals were painted on public roads all across the country. One was painted outside of Trump Tower in Manhattan. Even New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio got to work and helped paint the “L” and “I” letters in “Lives” for the painting.

The New York Times, reporting on the mural outside of Trump Tower, described it as a “public art project.”
“Black lives matter in the United States of America. Let’s show Donald Trump what he does not understand. Let’s paint it right in front of his building for him,” Mayor de Blasio said at the time.
If it’s legal, even praiseworthy, to paint a mural on the road outside of Trump Tower to send a message against racism, why wouldn’t it be legal, even praiseworthy, to paint a mural on the road outside of a Planned Parenthood to send a message against abortion?
After all, as The New York Times said, couldn’t the “Baby Lives Matter” mural just be a “public art project?”
What do you think?
