New Study Finds Mainstream Media Covers President Trump 150 Times More Negatively Than Joe Biden

A new study has found that the “big three” evening mainstream news broadcasts, ABC, NBC and CBS, give President Trump 150 times more negative coverage than they do Joe Biden.

The study was conducted by the conservative, non-profit media watchdog group, the Media Research Center (MRC).

Conducted from June 1 through July 31, the study found that the three evening newscasts focused 512 minutes on President Trump, and just 58 minutes on Joe Biden.

The study examined 668 “evaluative statements” made by anchors and reporters about the president, “95 percent of which (634) were negative, vs. a mere five percent (34) that were positive.”

This is compared with the small amount, one dozen, of evaluative statements made about Joe Biden, “two-thirds of which (67%) were positive.”

“I’ve been studying the news media and elections for more than 35 years. Trust me — there’s never been anything like it,” said Rich Noyes, Research Director at the MRC and author of the study.

“Viewers heard 150 TIMES more negative comments about Trump than Biden. That’s not news reporting — that’s a negative advertising campaign in action,” Noyes wrote.

“If you consider the evening newscasts a reliable gauge of the liberal media at large (cable news, big newspapers, etc.), it means Biden has enjoyed an army of so-called journalists conducting a massive negative information campaign against his opponent, while he is sheltered from any scrutiny,” he added.

Here, Noyes refers to the “basement strategy” of the Biden campaign, where the candidate is largely shielded from doing difficult media interviews or taking questions at press conferences.

Even liberal news outlet CNN has recently begun to criticize this strategy.

“The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has taken questions from the press twice in the past 48 days. That’s not nearly enough,” writes CNN’s Chris Cillizza.

The Daily Citizen recently reported on a new Gallup poll which found trust in the media sits at an “all time low.” The American people are on to the media’s clear bias in favor of one candidate, and against the other. According to the poll, 73% of Americans believe media bias is a major problem, while 80% think that “inaccuracies in reporting are intentional.”
