Indiana School District Withholds Student’s ‘Gender Support Plan’ From Parents

Parents in an Indiana school district have discovered a districtwide plan to hide “gender support plans” from parents whose students are undergoing so-called “gender transitions.”

Earlier this year, a school counselor at Pendleton Heights High School sent an email to the school’s teachers telling them that a student “had changed genders, provided new pronouns, and said teachers should not inform the student’s parents because they were ‘not supportive of the decision.’” the Daily Signal reports.

In the email, the counselor said that the individual “prefers the pronouns He/Him,” and that the “family is not supportive of this decision so any correspondence home or in reference to the student should remain as ‘___.’” The blanked out portion of the email references the student’s real name.

Unsurprisingly, this revelation alarmed local parents.

“If staff at South Madison are willing to lie to parents about this – what else are they willing to lie about? How can I be assured my kid is safe when he’s at Pendleton if they can’t be trusted to be honest with me?” Jason Payne, a parent of a local student, told the Daily Signal.

The school district is South Madison Community School Corporation.

According to the district’s most recent publicly available report card, the 2021 Annual Performance Report, the school district is receiving failing grades when it comes to educating their students.

Just 47.1% of students in 4th grade at Maple Ridge Elementary school received a passing score in math; 42.2% earned a passing score in science and 50% passed the language arts assessment.

The 5th grade assessments at Maple Ridge are even worse. Only 34.7% of student received a passing score in math; 35.2% passed language arts and 37.6% passed in social science.

Assessment scores at the district’s four other schools aren’t much different.

A school district clearly failing students who have failing grades in the district’s report card is bad enough. But intentionally hiding important information from parents, who have every right to direct the care and upbringing of their children, is even worse.

This story exemplifies why it’s extremely important for parents to be intensely involved in their children’s education. Parents must be aware of what their children are learning in school.
