Kirk Cameron Has a New Children’s Book Out – And No Public Library Will Let Him Read It

If a famous celebrity wrote a children’s book and then asked your local public library to allow him to read it during a regularly scheduled children’s story hour, wouldn’t you think that the library would jump at the chance?

It should be a no-brainer, but apparently not if your name is Kirk Cameron and you’ve written a faith-based book about the fruit of the Spirit as described in Galatians 5:22-23.

When Brave Books, the publisher of the 52-year-old former star of the Growing Pains television show and the Left Behind movie series sought to find a public library in which Cameron could read his new book, As You Grow, it soon found out that both Cameron and his faith-filled message were not welcome.

The publisher has contacted over 50 public libraries across the country that host “story hour” events, and has yet to receive a positive response, according to Fox News.

Several of the libraries admit that Cameron’s biblical message is not as welcome as the LGBT messages the libraries already support.

The Rochambeau Public Library in Providence, Rhode Island, for example, told the publisher “we will pass” on the offer to have Cameron read his book to the children of Providence.

Why? “We are a very queer-friendly library. Our messaging does not align.” The library’s website promotes a regular event for young people called “Queer Umbrella.”

A San Diego public library also declined the publisher’s offer. “I don’t think that’s something that we would do. Because of how diverse our community is, I don’t know how many people you would get.”

Other libraries simply responded with, “Thank you for thinking of us, but we are not interested in this program.”

Brave Books told Fox Digital that “All of the libraries that we contacted have hosted LGBTQ+ story times with drag queens in the past.”

Cameron says the whole point of his book is to fight back against the cultural trend in the education of our youth that he calls toxic and dangerous.

“As Bibles are literally being removed from schools and libraries — and as Christianity, and faith, and the Ten Commandments are being taken out of schools and replaced with toxic ideas like transgenderism, CRT and the 1619 project, I’m looking to fight back,” he told Fox.

It’s not all bad news, however. Cameron says, “We already have many [school] districts in counties across the country who have agreed to receive copies of my book and place them in their libraries.”

“I’m putting my new book — along with other books by Brave Books — into America’s schools, so that we can begin to rebuild those values and love for God, love for family, and love for country into the future generation.”

As You Grow, according to Cameron, is designed for children under ten years of age, and “teaches kids about biblical wisdom and the importance of relying on biblical principles through all seasons of life.”

“The stakes are high for me,” Cameron said. “I have six children. So I have a lot invested. And I’ve got grandbabies to think about, as well.”

As You Grow is available at Brave Books.
