Good Morning!

It was Pope John Paul II who wrote, “The Gospel of life is at the heart of Jesus’ message. Lovingly received day after day by the Church, it is to be preached with dauntless fidelity as ‘good news’ to the people of every age and culture.”

As we wait for the U.S. Supreme Court to hand down its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, potentially overturning Roe v. Wade, state legislatures across the nation continue to step up to protect preborn life.

We start today’s headlines with great news from The Sooner State.

Effective Immediately: Oklahoma Law Protects Preborn Babies from Conception to Birth

From The Daily Citizen:

Yesterday, Oklahoma became the first state in the nation, effective immediately, to enact pro-life legislation protecting preborn human life from the moment of conception. The law went into effect upon the signature of Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt.

As the entire country awaits a decision from the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, pro-life states all over the nation have been moving with speed to pass legislation that will protect babies in the womb should Roe v. Wade be overturned.

HB 4327 protects preborn human life from fertilization through birth, including exceptions for preserving the life of the mother, incest, and rape.

The bill is modeled after the Texas Heartbeat law. It includes provisions that give private citizens the ability to enforce the measure by filing a lawsuit against abortionists who illegally perform abortions.

‘We’re Literally Experimenting on Children’: Bill Maher Challenges Transgender Craze

From The Daily Signal:

Comedian Bill Maher says it’s OK to question the transgender movement sweeping across America because “we’re literally experimenting on children.”

During a recent episode of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the comic questioned the rationale behind allowing kids to take puberty blockers or have “gender reassignment” surgeries, as well as the role culture plays in the conversation.

“If this spike in trans children is all natural, why is it regional?” Maher asked rhetorically during a nine-minute monologue. “Either Ohio is shaming them or California is creating them.”

‘Heroic’ Profiles in Courage Emerge After Horrific Shooting at Robb Elementary School

From The Daily Citizen:

According to several sources, a few Border Patrol agents are being called “heroes” after rapidly responding to the school. Apparently, they were tasked with creating a plan to breach the classroom where the 18-year-old gunman had barricaded himself in.

The agents belonged to a special Border Patrol Tactical Unit (Bortac) which are “among the most highly trained in federal law enforcement.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Bortac agents weren’t able to get into the barricaded classroom “because of a steel door and cinder block construction … Meanwhile, the 18-year-old gunman shot at them and other officers through the door and walls.”

“The Bortac agents got a master key from the school principal that allowed them to enter the room, according to the officials. One Bortac agent took rounds to their shield upon entering and a second was wounded by shrapnel. A third killed the suspect.”

Now, one Homeland Security official has said that the Bortac agents believed they were on a “suicide” mission in breaching the classroom.

“If you have a barricaded subject and he has the advantage because he’s barricaded — if you rush through the door, not only do you have dead kids but dead cops. It’s suicide to try to rush a barricaded subject,” the official said. “I don’t think a lot of people would make that decision. To me, it just speaks to those individuals who decided to make entry.”

Upon breaching the classroom, one of the agents came within inches of being killed. A bullet grazed the black-and-white cap that he was wearing.

Related From Good Morning America: Comfort dogs sent to Texas to offer support following elementary school shooting

Several dogs were among the responders sent to Texas Wednesday, one day after a gunman opened fire at an elementary school in the city of Uvalde, killing at least 19 children and two teachers.

The trained animals are all part of Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) K-9 Ministries, a K-9 unit that travels across the U.S. to provide comfort and support to people impacted by disasters such as mass shootings.

Eight of the group’s canines, all golden retrievers, are dedicated to the Uvalde community. They range in age from 3 to 9, according to Lutheran Church Charities’ K-9 crisis response coordinator Bonnie Fear.

“We listen if they talk,” she added. “We’re silent. We let the dogs connect with people and they can express their feelings at that time and we’re not counselors, so we are just present, standing with them in their sorrow.”

Lutheran Church Charities’ president and CEO Tim Hetzner recalled to “GMA” one comfort dog visit that made a particularly lasting impression on him.

“I remember one situation in Sandy Hook, four days after the shooting,” Hetzner said, referring to the 2012 mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and six adults dead. “We were at a community center and this couple was there with their young boy. … I had a dog named Howe at that time.”

“Howe looked up at the boy, got up, walked over to the boy, rolled into his legs and the boy came down on top of him. They just laid there. After about 10 minutes, the boy lifted up Howe’s ear and told him everything that happened in that classroom. Parents started crying because it was the first time the boy had talked in four days. First time and it was a dog.”

How Good is Big Business at Respecting Free Speech, Freedom of Religion? ‘Abysmal’, Says New Report

From The Daily Citizen:

A new report is out, designed to measure corporate respect for religious and ideological diversity in the market, workplace, and public square. The Viewpoint Diversity Score Business Index (Business Index) is the product of a joint effort by Alliance Defending Freedom and Inspire Insight, a Christian financial technology firm. They found that the businesses most capable of influencing and protecting free speech and the freedom of religion are doing an “abysmal” job.

The Business Index focused on 50 companies in the Fortune 1000 that are in industries having the greatest potential to impact free speech and religious freedom, such as those that provide essential banking, payment processing, and cloud services, or that serve as platforms for third-party expression in the digital space.

You are probably familiar with many of these companies, such as Meta (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), Twitter, and Bank of America. And you’ve undoubtedly heard of examples of the corporate censorship of conservative viewpoints by those companies.

Even The Daily Citizen has not been immune to having its stories blocked on social media for reporting factual events that don’t follow the tenets of today’s woke culture.

Sadly, but perhaps unsurprisingly, the average score for the 50 businesses examined was a depressing 12% out of 100.

Exclusive Poll: By Two-To-One Margin, Investors Reject Woke Companies Pushing Political Causes

From The Daily Wire:

American investors – by an overwhelming margin – want companies they invest in to stop preaching and pursue profits, and they want no part of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) movement, and exclusive DailyWire/Echelon Insights poll reveals.

Companies have been increasingly pushing woke causes onto their consumers, but the poll reveals they do so at their own peril. The poll of over 1,000 investors, conducted last week by Echelon on behalf of The Daily Wire, showed that Americans want companies they invest in to seek profits instead of promoting political agendas outside of companies’ missions. While 29% of respondents agreed it is a “good thing” for companies to leverage their financial power for political or social means supported by executives, 58% – twice as many – said it is a “bad thing.”

Trump judges use one-two legal punch to block Biden agenda

From The Washington Times:

President Biden is pushing an expansive agenda — but Trump-appointed judges are pushing back, using a powerful combination of legal tools to stymy the administration.

The most recent instance came earlier this month when Judge Robert Summerhays ruled the president’s team had cut too many procedural corners in arriving at its decision to end the Title 42 pandemic border shutdown, putting the president in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act.

Judge Summerhays, in issuing a preliminary injunction against ending Title 42, ruled that his injunction would apply nationwide, effectively halting the Biden team in its tracks.

That same one-two legal punch has also been used by judges to ding the president’s deportation pause, his attempt to erase the “Remain in Mexico” border policy, and his effort to expand consideration of greenhouse gas emissions in federal policymaking.

All were victims of the APA and nationwide injunctions, wielded by Trump-appointed judges.

7.   Beverly Hills Parents Erupt Over Gender Identity In Fifth Grade Sex-Ed

From The Daily Wire:

Parents in Beverly Hills showed up to their local school board meeting this month to express their shock and disappointment with what they said was the fifth-grade sex education curriculum.

Four parents spoke out about the district’s sex-ed classes for 10-year-olds during the May 10 school board meeting for Beverly Hills Unified School District.

“I feel betrayed, angry, and disgusted,” one dad of a fifth-grader told the board. “Our kids have the right to innocence and not to be exposed to topics that can only confuse them even more than they are as they enter puberty.”

The dad said several topics, including gender identity, were not “openly disclosed” in the email sent to parents about the classes.

“The students for this are ten years old,” the dad continued. “How can the district think this content is even remotely appropriate for this age group and not even make a specific disclosure to parents? It’s unbelievable.”

8.   USDA Says, ‘No School Lunch for You!’ – Unless You Embrace LGBT Ideology

From The Daily Citizen:

It’s like Jerry Seinfeld’s “Soup Nazi,” shouting, “No soup for you,” at those who violated the restaurateur’s rules for ordering.

But in this instance, it’s the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) shouting at public and private schools, camps, food pantries, and children’s residential homes – any organization that receives federal money for food programs.

“No school lunch program for you!” – unless you abide by our new policies privileging “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.”

The USDA and Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) announced that it was redefining sex-based discrimination, in all its federal programs, to include these two broad, unscientific, ill-defined, subjective terms.

Where “sex discrimination” used to mean discrimination against someone because they were male or female, the USDA now includes discrimination on the basis of changeable characteristics like sexual identity, thoughts, feelings or actions.

“As a result [of this redefinition],” the announcement said, “state and local agencies, program operators and sponsors that receive funds from FNS must investigate allegations of discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation.”

9.   ‘Duck Dynasty’ patriarch Phil Robertson’s movie ‘The Blind’ to hit theaters in 2023

From The Christian Post:

The story of the Robertson family has been seen on reality TV and in an online series — and now it will debut on the big screen in a movie titled “The Blind.”

According to Movieguide, the film will follow “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson and will take place in the 1960s South. The story will follow his battle with alcoholism and eventual transformation. It will also document his pursuit of being a good husband and father.

The movie is being produced by the same company that previously worked with the Robertsons on their family podcasts, “Tread Lively Entertainment.”

Filming is currently underway in Shreveport, Louisiana, the family’s hometown.

The Robertson clan shot to fame after their reality show “Duck Dynasty” launched on A&E in 2012. The show, which ended in 2017, showcased the family’s “Duck Commander” business and their lives.

10. The world’s tallest dog is 7 feet tall on his hind legs: ‘He thinks he’s a lap dog’

From Today:

Walking around the Dallas Farmers Market with the world’s tallest living male dog — a Great Dane named Zeus, according to Guinness World Records — garners a lot of stares, smiles, photo requests and one comment in particular.

“We counted 68 times once that we heard people say, ‘Whoa, that’s a horse,’” said his owner, Brittany Davis, a 36-year-old teacher and resident of Fort Worth, Texas. “It’s kind of a game now.”

While it’s not an original comment, it’s understandable. Zeus stands tall at 3 feet, 5.18 inches — and stretches over 7 feet tall standing on his hind legs.

The dog’s fans sometimes ask, “Can I ride him?” or “Does he have a saddle?” — to which Davis firmly answers “No.”

“He’s not a horse. He’s a dog. And he would not appreciate being ridden at all,” she said. “Most people obviously say it jokingly, but it’s definitely something we hear multiple times every time we bring him out.”

The world’s tallest dog eats 12 cups of food formulated for giant-breed dogs each day and glucosamine supplements to protect his joints. Davis asks her veterinarian for tips about caring for the big guy and makes sure to keep him healthy and lean to avoid hurting his hips.
