Number of Pro-Life Women in House of Representatives Hits 30, a New Record

Surging to an all-time high, the number of pro-life women serving in the U.S. House of Representatives has now reached 30.

According to the Susan B. Anthony List, (SBA List) which works to promote and elect pro-life women around the country, the recent certification of Claudia Tenney as the victor in New York’s 22nd Congressional District brought the number of pro-life women in the U.S. House to two and a half dozen.

In a press release, SBA List touted the number of pro-life women who were elected during the last election and noted that the number is “more than double the previous record.”

In the release, SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser lauded Tenney’s victory.

“Claudia Tenney is a pro-life champion, and it is wonderful to have her back serving in Congress,” Dannenfelser said. “We celebrate a record-breaking 30 pro-life women elected to the House as proof that life is winning in America…

“Women are ideal messengers to communicate the pro-life message. Standing tall with the early feminists who knew that authentic rights can never be built on the broken bodies and rights of our children, these strong leaders dismantle the abortion lobby narrative and are an integral part of restoring a culture of life to our nation,” Dannenfelser added.

SBA List said all 11 incumbent pro-life women in the U.S. House won reelection during the 2020 General Election. Additionally, 19 new pro-life women won during the election.

Tenney won her seat by just 109 votes after a very lengthy vote counting process.

According to The Associated Press, Tenney had a substantial lead in the race following election day, but her lead evaporated as mail-in ballots were counted.

After her lead shrank to just a few dozen votes by mid-December, “both sides turned to the courts to decide whether to count certain ballots, including some with potentially disqualifying technical errors, or which were cast at the wrong locations or by voters whose registration status was in doubt…

“In the end, a judge ruled that Tenney won by 109 votes out of nearly 319,000 votes cast, or a margin of just 0.034%.”

After being sworn in on Thursday, she joined the ranks of pro-life women in the U.S. House.
